You know Sarah Andersen right? That weird looking black n’ white one page comics that somehow know how we live? Yeah, those are created by Sarah Andersen and this is her third book.
Sarah’s Scribbles is a comic strip that takes us on a trip of her life and finds humor in daily observations. Observational comedy is always very subtle that points at our surroundings in a third party manner. We don’t see it because we are in it. And it frames a more authentic stage when the comedy is about us and our own life.
Sarah Anderson is one of us – that might be the most fitting thing I can say. Her life, anxiety, laziness, friends and all else are so much like us that one feels asking her, “How did you know?” again and again.
The last part of the book is a collection of short-notes, open letters and relevant comics for struggling artists, writers and any kind of creative developers. It feels like a friend’s pat on the back to those who are facing self-doubt and other problems.
A must-read if you love cats, dogs, food, yourself and life.
Disclaimer: I love Sarah’s Scribbles and it was a delight to get ARC of it. I received a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
TRANSMETROPOLITAN Vol.1 – 5 stars
Fu*k Society! Cyber punk dirty future world has come to life by Warren Ellis and Darick Roberson just to bear a Son of a Dogfu**er Gonjo Journalist like Spider Jerusalem! I don’t hate you or him, I hate you all – a moto that rings through time and space. A war of a single mo**erf**ker against society and so called face f**king protocols. His pen (read computer) is mightier than the sword (read guns and gongs) because he can write like – “Take a good look at the City before I scuttle back into my little fucking luxury hole”!
I don’t think I have got the balls to write about this book. Just read it and enlighten your minds from the gutter hole we call society!
Coinman: An Untold Conspiracy – 4 stars
Coinman: An Untold Conspiracy is the story of a usual normal boring ‘mad’ man who is trapped in webs of boring petty normal life. Wait a minute, did I say normal? I meant the mad mad world where insanity might be the only option for sanity!
Our oh so mighty hero is a low level employee in a office where he is the joker for all. With a wife obsessed with acting at home and the whole paranoid world throwing one after anohter oddballs on his way, jingling coins in pocket seems to be the only possible way to remain ‘normal’.
This is an odd book. Odd like I’ve never felt before. The book started as if it was missing a few first chapters but slowly it started gaining upon me. The mad cap paranoia, the unusual yet familiar situations became too luscious for me to stop. I should mention here that I’ve never read sarcasm like this before from such a young author. For me, sarcasm is the best thing served on plates by this book. I just loved that.
It is a sad dark time for Indian novels where reading a third book feels like a repeat full of same old funny/romance cliche with sex thrown in to make it crispy. Thankfully we have authors like Pawan Mishra and a few others who are not afraid to dive into unconventional grounds to make a difference.
I got this book from Pawan in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for giving me the opportunity.
I invite all the readers to this mad house where all you got to do is jingle some coins!
Oh yeah I will Jingle it baby!
